Chris: Hello and welcome to
Dailyish for August 19th, 2026 I'm
recording an episode every day for
this, my 50th year on this planet.
Today is the first episode of this
new venture, and we'll see how it
goes, 'cause I'm a little nervous
about recording an episode a day.
I love podcasting.
I love the art of it.
I love the fun of it.
But committing to daily is a
lot, and that's why this podcast
vehicle, the, the podcast you're
subscribed to, is an old one that
I've had since I think it was 2018.
20-- No, 2014, actually, I think,
where I would do a podcast episode
daily-ish, and so it was always kind
of like whenever I felt inspired, I
could do it, and that worked for a
while, and then till it didn't, and I
stopped, and then I got, came back again.
So you can go back in the archives,
which I hopefully are fairly clearly
labeled, but working on that and see
all sorts of ramblings and things.
But now this project, which is taking
over from my, uh, selfie a day project
that I did last year is a little more,
um, intense just because obviously I can
snap a selfie pretty quickly and go on
about my day even if I'm in a bad mood
or even if I'm not inspired or even if I
have nothing in my brain other than just
posing for the camera for a brief moment,
Whereas having thoughts that are worth
putting out into the world, worth putting
the effort of recording into the world,
worth all of those things is a little more
daunting, especially as someone who, uh,
I think I overthink things a lot and-- Or
sorry, I know I overthink things a lot,
and so on some days I'm all in, it's easy,
and not worrying about what I'm perceived
to be like because I'm doing this.
And then other days for reasons that
are either personal emotions and lack
of sleep or too much sleep, it does not
feel like a thing I wanna have to do.
we'll see how it goes.
I looked at the stats.
If you read my blog post on how the,
selfie a day project went, in actuality,
even though it felt like I was kind of
having to do it every day, in actuality I
think I did it around 220 out of 365 days.
So just barely a passing grade actually.
So if I aim for that or higher, I feel
like that's attainable, but we shall see.
So thank you for coming along for the ride
today, August 19th, as I record thisâ¦
Well, actually, as I record this, this
is the day before, 'cause I wanna have it
in place so it's ready to go August 19th.
That's the other thing I'm allowing myself
to do is record in advance if need be,
ba- uh, batch episodes in advance, use
all the tricks of the trade of podcasting
so it's not has, doesn't have to be
live recorded on that day every day.
And that will hopefully
allow me to plan in advance.
Well, it does allow me to plan in advance.
Whether I actually plan in
advance or not remains to be seen.
That's also one of the things I'm using
this project as a way to try and like
work on that muscle of it's okay to plan
in advance and it's also okay not to
release the thing you just worked on right
now and try and get feedback right now.
It's okay to wait and see and then
publish it when it's due to go out.
It's also just a very different world
than the last time I tried doing this
podcast, which was kind of post-COVID
and figuring out what podcasting means in
this world, and the internet is different
than it was even three to five years
ago, It does kind of feel like in this
age of what is AI and what is it gonna
do and how are we using it and whether
we should be using it, all that kind of
stuff, there's a bit of a craving for
authenticity, a b- for human connection.
And so whether a dude talking into a
microphone by himself is a way of helping
human connection or I'm just perpetuating
the loneliness or solo, uh, thoughts that
we're all stuck in, remains to be seen.
I guess we'll-- That'll be for when I
review this, this project a year from now.
I really value feedback just to know that
there's somebody out there listening not
so much for vanity's sake, but more just
for, if it's not working or if there's
technical issues or the sound sounds
weird in your car or your headphones
or whatever, that kind of stuff.
Or you have a comment or thought on
something I said, whether good or bad
or pushing back or just questions, uh,
about what I said or something you'd
like me to talk about in the future.
And so there'll be details in the
show notes, uh, in your podcast app.
Obviously, you can reply to me on any
social network wherever you happen
to see me posting this and, uh, and
then also just my first name.last
is where you can reach
me if you need to email.
thing I love about some of the podcasts
these days, in particular the, um,
Lonely Island with Seth Meyers podcast,
is friends generally of the show,
but folks sending in voice notes.
So if you get the voice recorder out on
your, the voice note memo or whatever
recorder on your phone, record something,
quick question, whatever, send in audio.
I'd love to incorporate that
into future episodes as well.
And so for now, you can email it
to me, but also I'll figure out
other ways to drop, uh, links so
you can send in voice notes too.
That's always fun to have as podcasters
to incorporate into future episodes.
For now, If you stumbled on
this somewhere else, you can
find all the details on how to
subscribe, at daily.chrisanns.com
is where the podcast lives, and
you can see the past episodes,
show notes, et cetera there
way back when I used to do this podcast,
I had a opening line of reporting on
what the weather was locally and then
saying something along the lines of,
"But this is not a weather podcast,"
which my brother-in-law then eventually
made a shirt for me that says, "But
this is not a weather podcast."
So if you ever see me wearing that
shirt, it's a little bit ragged at this
point, but that's where that came from.
I don't think I'll continue that
tradition, and I don't know what new
traditions will start with this show.
for now I'll say thank you for listening.
Have a great day.
Bye.
