Hello, folks. Welcome to Daily ish for, Tuesday, August 20018. This episode of Daily(ish) brought to by Patreon supporters because without them, I would be, waiting longer than a month to record an episode, I guess, is what I'm trying to say. So thanks to them. Patreon, patreon,.com/ichris is where you can check out how you can support what I'm doing here on Daily ish, but more generally what we're doing on goodstuff.fm.
Speaker 1:So I'm doing a video version of this for the Patreon supporters just because I feel like it's been so long since I've spoke at them with them and wanted to make sure that they had the visual version if they want. Although of the, what is it? I forget how many people. There's only a couple of views that ever get actually tracked on the YouTube video version of this. It's like a hidden unlisted video.
Speaker 1:So I'm not sure if anybody actually ever watches it, but, for those that do, here it is. So summer, basically. That's the that's the excuse. This is the the usual probably the annual, like, oh, shoot. I haven't done one in a while recording of an episode.
Speaker 1:We had some family vacation stuff. We had some family camp stuff. We had some, extended family vacation stuff out to the mountains. You can see some of the evidence of that on the old Instagrams. If you're so inclined, link is in the show notes.
Speaker 1:And but it's yeah. It's coming back from that is kinda like a a mind meld or a mind whatever the opposite of meld is, I guess. Mind job, I guess, where I'm trying to, like, get back into the swing of things. There's usually a mountain of work that I'm coming back to, and just trying to, like, quickly get that done. Then I stop to breathe from that, trying to like get back onto a regular schedule when, pretty much everybody around me is still like desperately trying not to be on a schedule because they're still on summer mode, understandably.
Speaker 1:They're trying to avoid thoughts of school and back to school and fall and pumpkin spice lattes and all those kinds of things that come with fall. Whereas I'm trying to, like, get back into the rhythm of where I was, three or four weeks ago before I left on holidays and took some time off even though I was kind of working while I was away. So then when I come back, new things are exciting. New project ideas are exciting, but trying to resurrect old projects or ongoing projects, not so much. And so Daily(ish) in particular, just because it's a it's a thing that requires, I don't know, just me to especially when I'm talking to myself, talking to you and the camera if you're there.
Speaker 1:It requires me to be in a certain headspace, and I'm not naturally in that headspace. It's sort of, it's like a performance recording, talking to myself, talking to the screen, talking to you performance thing that just takes me a while to get into that headspace and sort of push me out onto the stage as it were. And so I'll avoid anything and everything trying to not do that to the point where I'll even, you know, pick up the phone and and talk to people, people who need to talk to me or whatever, which I avoid at all costs. So that gives you an idea of of how difficult I find it to get back into the rhythm of recording podcasts. Even, like, Kyle and myself coming back to to, Show Me Your Mic, which is like a two person show, it's just kinda like a extra oomph that sometimes I'm lacking, especially, yeah, in the summer months for some reason.
Speaker 1:But I'm sure there's episodes like this in winter that I've recorded as well. So, anyway, this is one of those getting over the hump videos, audios, episodes. That's what I'm trying to say. I've, I have a plan, a thing that I'm trying to build. This is again, these were new projects, new ideas are way more exciting than picking up old things, but it's an idea that's been rumbling around in my head for a long, long time and inspired in in no small part by, Justin Jackson.
Speaker 1:He's got a mega maker community kinda, like, for folks who like to make web apps, making stuff, but generally web apps and software as a subscription service kind of, websites and businesses that are related to that. So sort of pivoting off of that idea of a community of people around, but instead built around people who are love and want to love creating podcasts. And so the there's a link in the show notes to sign up for a newsletter list if you'd like to be notified about this community that I wanna try and build. So there's a tech side of it, the back end of it that I need to sort of get into place, but I also need to sort of gauge how worth it is if people are actually interested in this. If you're happy just, like, searching for random YouTube videos and random conversations on Twitter, Don't really want any sort of, like, encouragement or or, why do I start with a negative when I'm trying to promote something?
Speaker 1:Anyway, the positive side of it is this would be a community where folks who want to podcast, who are podcasting, or who are struggling to keep podcasting like myself would join together. There'd be some encouragement. There'd be some training. There'd be some discussions. There'd be, just a community of folks that are encouraging each other, spurring each other on to do the podcasting thing that we're trying to do.
Speaker 1:So, monthly hangouts, maybe weekly sort of challenges to try and motivate folks to you know, whether it's just to give you a topic to talk about that week, and then you can sort of share the results with everybody else in the community. And then, obviously, the like, the podcast you create are going out into the world, but the community itself would be, contained, would be, private, and and maybe locked down to a certain number of people per year or per session or whatever. Not trying to do like a big huge course launch thing because I know from past experience that doesn't work for me. I'm not great at that, but ongoing sort of community support and and throwing the occasional tutorial video and answering questions and monthly Hangouts, that kind of stuff, that's something I can definitely do. So if that interests you at all, sign up in the link in the show notes, which you can find at goodstuff.fm/dailyish/250eight.
Speaker 1:Sign up right here to get email updates on a podcast community I'm trying to build, and then I'll send you emails when and if there's something to announce. And maybe all you'll ever do is sign up and because, actually, you know what? I'll definitely send an email with progress. If only five people sign up, honestly, I probably won't be building it too much further than that. I'll be promoting it on Twitter and and things from the for the next little while, but if there's no real interest or need for it, then I'm not gonna forge ahead and waste money and time on something that I just think people might want, I would want, but maybe they already have it somewhere else.
Speaker 1:So part of what, sort of pushed me beyond the the idea stage on this is just an experience I had recently. It was just one day I was helping a friend do some farming. He's a farmer, and I'm not a farmer, but I I love farming. And like I've said before, I I can't even make my grass grow, help, grow decently. So I have no business really being a farmer, but I can drive a truck, a big truck with a dump truck thing on his, which is lots of fun, and air horn and, and do that kind of thing.
Speaker 1:So but there was seven of us total driving various massive machinery things, working together, driving alongside somebody as their their silage chopper machine is spewing coleslaw into the back of a truck for cows to eat later, dumping that somewhere, and a big tractor shovels it all into a big pile, then another large tractor drives over top of it. It's compact. So seven people kind of all working together for one goal, and it kind of just reminded me of and, made me think about how I work so alone. And, I have projects where I work with people on, obviously, good stuff. The Podcast Network is with some folks, but we're all kinda like it's random.
Speaker 1:It's hobby. It's for fun, which is great, and I wanna keep it that way. And I also have podcasts that I work on for other people, and we're kinda like collaboratively building that together. Like, it's not that I'm off in a silo and they're just firing me audio files and then I send them back and we never really talk to each other. We're certainly collaborative, but it's not the same as working on a thing together with the same end goal.
Speaker 1:I'm trying to make an, you know, like, with clients, I try to make a really good sounding audio podcast and hopefully people will listen, But it's not my end goal necessarily that more people listen. I'm not involved in community development and marketing and and things like that on on the podcast where I edit them for people as my clients. That's their job and that's their passion is growing their podcast, talking to their community, and that kind of thing. I'm behind the scenes not really involved that way. So that's where part of this is kind of born out of is there's gotta be other folks like me who are maybe lonely podcasters.
Speaker 1:It's not like a dating site for podcasters by any means, but just as part of developing community and, working together collaboratively kinda kicking each other in the pants when we're feeling down about our podcast and giving feedback when it's solicited on audio quality and topics and things like that. So, yeah, if that interests you, feel free to sign up. If not, feel free to ignore, and, we'll be back again. So this has been daily ishgoodstuff.fm/dailyish/2 five eight is the episode number and where you can find it on the web. Patreon.com/ikris is where you can check out how to support me more directly with some monies.
Speaker 1:And, that's it for now. Thanks for listening. Hope you have a good day. Bye.
