Podcast Editing and Consulting Work Is My Meat and Potatoes

For folks who only listen to my podcast and don't know what I actually do, here's an episode explaining a bit about what I do in exchange for money which I use to buy meat and potatoes.
Chris:

Hello. Welcome to Daily(ish) for, Wednesday, December not December. May. I think the heat is getting to my brain. May May twenty third at, 03:45PM live and up to date depending on when you listen to this.

Chris:

It's, 29 degrees, and it feels like 29. So we're actually living in the warmth of summer as, hopefully, hangs on for a while. We've had, sporting events rained out perpetually, for my children's sporting activities. And so hopefully now, we've got some heat and sun and, no more rain. Well, except rain for the farmers.

Chris:

So just and the and the gardens, I guess. So everywhere except for the sporting events, please rain. This episode of Daily(ish) brought to you by the lovely folks who are supporting me on Patreon, patreon.com/ichris. So you can go to check out how to support what I'm doing personally as well as what we're doing at goodstuff.fm, the Podcast Network that this is a part of. If you're not aware, if you're this is your first time listening to the Daily ish or, well, yeah, Daily ish, then, visit goodstuff.fm on your Internet browser and, and or look up goodstuff.fm in your podcast player of choice, app of choice, and find out all bunch of other shows.

Chris:

Find out about a bunch of other shows that we have that are most of them, all of them actually, are not just one dude rambling into the microphone. So if I guess if you're listening to this, that's maybe is your thing. And you won't like any other shows because they have variety and interesting topics and movies they talk about or TV shows or science or food because none of those kinds of things get discussed here ever. But, yeah, good stuff out of him. I wanted to record, well, I've been wanting

Chris:

to record an episode for a

Chris:

while because I've fallen off the wagon of my schedule. As you are well aware, if you're paying attention and you're anxiously waiting by your podcast player or for on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays, wondering where for the last week and a half, I think it is, that I haven't recorded an episode. And, it's the old, brain thing telling me either some variation on, like, you don't have anything worth saying, so don't bother, or you're way too busy to record a podcast. You have important work to do and then spend it diddling away on, reading stuff on the Internet or whatever.

Chris:

So, hey, here we are

Chris:

back again. But one of the reasons why I wanted to record this episode is because I had a person who contacted me through my YouTube channel, the Lem Productions YouTube channel that I have where I just put random videos about tech and stuff that's interesting to me on the computer software and apps and things and predominantly weighted predominantly related to podcasting stuff, but also just other things I'm interested in. And someone contacted me there through that wondering if I did some consulting on podcast because as far as the YouTube channel folks are are aware, I do that. I do software y stuff, but I don't really ever promote myself as a thing on there that you can as a thing. That's terrible.

Chris:

As a person or a business that you could hire, let's say, outside of watching more YouTube videos, it's all about, like, subscribe to my channel and smash that like button, things like that. So in in just in the same vein here, if you're listening to Daily(ish) if this is the only avenue for, like, you don't follow me on Twitter, you don't read my lemonproductions.ca blog, you don't, pass me on the street and give me a high five, any of those kinds of things, and this is the only place you ever hear my voice or interact with me in any way. I do about half of my business, my work that I do, I'm self employed, is podcast editing and related, and I'd like to grow that into being a 100% or pretty close of it to be podcasting related, editing and producing and consulting and marketing for podcasts. And so, I do do consulting, and you can hire me for an hour or longer if you want, but where you basically would send your podcast to me, and I would listen to a few episodes and then give you some thoughts and feedback on audio quality, content, any kind of area that you're looking for help or support in that.

Chris:

And so, there'll be a link in the show notes, goodstuff.fm/dailyish/251 for where you can there's an automatic bookings app thing that I have that I use so you can automatically check if I'm available when you're available and then invoices get sent and all that kind of stuff. And we eventually chat on Skype or Google Hangouts or whatever method we agree on. Because I know for for a lot of podcast producers, maybe if obviously, if you don't have a podcast at all and you wanna get some consulting in how to get started, that's another way we can do that as well. And, but for a lot of podcasters, maybe you've been doing it for a while, you're not we're just kinda, like, stuck in a rut, and you're not sure where or what or how to approach your podcast next or if you're gonna level up in whether to buy some gear or buy some software or buy some, I don't know, contents, audits, content, what's the word I'm working with? Producer.

Chris:

Someone to help you with producing your podcast and or hire an editor, outsource an editor like me or, any what what your options are and what would might work best for your podcast. And that's the kind of thing that I'd love to help some folks with. Obviously, the sort of meat and potatoes, which that's a because I edit a podcast called Shop Talk Show a lot, and Dave says that almost every episode. It's kinda stuck in my brain now. I I don't think I ever say meat and potatoes that often, but I digress.

Chris:

Meat and potatoes, what I do is actually just, you know, people send me audio files. I edit them into a nice show and edit out any technical issues or conversations they don't want put into the final version of the podcast and send them back an m p three and update show notes and all kind stuff. That's probably what I do, but, yeah, I still have lots of time to do some consulting as well here and there. So I think I've rambled enough about that idea. If you have questions about podcasting, you can always tweet at me at I Chris on Twitter or follow my Lemon Production Twitter account, and happy to answer questions there.

Chris:

But, of course, you know, anything in more in-depth where you want some serious back and forth and feedback and stuff, I I do appreciate being compensated for my time in with monetary items, with whatever sort of arrangements can be made like that. Alright. It's beautiful out. We're, we're recording the YouTube Podcast tonight, a live version right before YouTube goes on stage in Chicago. Not that we're on Chick stage in Chicago, but we'll be recording and broadcasting on the Good Stuff Twitch channel.

Chris:

Goodstuff.fm/twitch is where you can go there and you can subscribe and be notified whenever a Good Stuff show goes live on Twitch. And also, by the way, if you're an Amazon Prime listener, if you wanna if don't you wanna do the Patreon thing and you just wanna kinda help help out good stuff without really having to do anything other than just signing up for a Twitch account if you don't already have one, if you're an Amazon Prime member paying member in Canada, The US, I think elsewhere in the world too, you can subscribe to the good stuff Twitch channel, and then you can I forgot the wording as gift or something, your Prime subscription? Because everybody who has Amazon Prime, gets a free, is able to gift a Twitch streamer that or bonus or whatever. I don't know what they call it exactly. But basically, each month, can choose to gift a different streamer with your initial sort of $5 a month, I think it is, from Twitch, from Amazon.

Chris:

I don't know who it's from. But basically, it amounts to you don't pay anything extra for your Amazon Prime account. You don't pay anything for Twitch, but they because Amazon owns both properties, they're kinda like trying to get Prime people to subscribe to Twitch channels, I guess. I'm not sure how the money exchanges hands. We'll see.

Chris:

We just kinda got our Twitch channel to, I think it's affiliate status or partner status. I forgot which one. And so that allows us to be part of that group of channels that can get their Prime memberships gifted or something. So I hope hope that makes sense. Don't worry about it if you're not a Prime subscriber.

Chris:

You don't have to pay money to watch livestreams. It's just kinda like if you're already a Prime subscriber, you can help us out and it doesn't cost you anything, and the money doesn't not go somewhere else. Basically, it just kinda sits at Amazon's bank account, I guess. So might as well go to someone, I think. Hopefully, us.

Chris:

But you could maybe find other Twitch streamers you like while you're there, especially if you love watching the Fortnites or whatever. I think that's it for this episode. Thank you very much for listening. Hope you have a great Wednesday wherever you are in the world, and maybe see you later on on the Good Stuff Twitch stream or in the next episode that I should record on Friday. If you're listening and you, you're on Twitter, you can tweet at me on a day that I'm supposed to be recording daily ish, Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

Chris:

And if it's towards the end of the day, Canadian time anyways, tweet at me and ask where the episode is if I haven't put one out. You can be my accountability partner. Okay. Oh, I'm I Chris on Twitter in case you haven't figured that out. Links for all that kind of stuff will be in the show notes.

Chris:

Like I said, goodstuff.fm/dailyish/25one. Hope you have a great day. Thanks for listening. Bye.
