Hello. Welcome to Daily(ish) for, 2018. First episode of 2018. It's also episode number 230 for Wednesday, January 10. It's, minus 22, feels like minus 37, which is, minus 34 in the fels felsiuses, the the f's those folks not so Celsius inclined.
Speaker 1:It's, back to cold. I I missed recording an episode during the brief taste of spring we had, last week where it was almost, almost at freezing. Almost, but not quite. I've been needing to record an episode for the last week or so, and, each time I go to do it, I get the what I can I can best describe it as, Internet stage fright? The idea of putting a thing out there on the Internet for whoever random folks to hear and get terrified at the thought of saying something either stupid or, or just putting it out there.
Speaker 1:229 episodes into this podcast, you'd think that might be a thing of the past, but still is a thing that stops my brain or my brain stops me from hitting record and then publishing and and moving on with my day and even for a five to ten minute audio blurb from my brain. And so, this is just one of those ones where you put it out to get it over get over the hump so you can get back on track. It's kinda like any sort of thing after a break where Christmas time was great just to relax and not think about even work so much and and then doing any podcast stuff. But just before Christmas, we had with, good stuff as a whole and, and in particular, the even the YouTube podcast, and I know with Kyle and morning show and just our Twitch channel and just kinda like making a big push for followers on there and putting out episodes and all that kind of stuff. We're all in a good rhythm.
Speaker 1:Felt like and then you take a break for Christmas, and all of a sudden, it's like we have to back on the treadmill and try to figure out a way to get back into that groove. And so, generally, for me, with this kind of stuff anyways, as with, like, exercise, I suppose, I I've kept talking about wanting to start exercising again. And so far, it's just talking, maybe a little too much talk. And, but that's, you know, that's the first stage. You gotta talk yourself into it.
Speaker 1:And then one morning, finally, at 06:30, when it's minus forty out, I'll head out to to a parent's house or or a gym or whatever and use their machines for a while and regret it and then try and get back into a rhythm of something. So, anyways, stage fright on the Internet is a thing that I deal with, and it's not a very big thing, but it's kinda silly in hindsight, but then, once I know once I put an episode out and then get back in the rhythm, it's all good. So thanks for bearing with my absence, silence on this podcast, and, thanks to the Patreon supporters at patreon.com/ichris in particular for, for being there in 2017. And, it's it's astounding and amazing and and awesome to to know that there's folks out there who are trying to help kick start in a sense what I'm doing and then what we're doing at Good Stuff as a whole. Speaking of, Good Stuff announcements, the there's a bunch of shows including this one that seemingly disappeared from Overcast.
Speaker 1:Overcast is a fairly popular iOS podcast player, at least popular among podcast nerds. And and it's, it's just like just like with iTunes, it's important to have your show listed in in all these places. And generally, they automatically aggregate it for you because a lot of them feed off of what's in iTunes and then get added to their respective. So like Overcast and Pocket Cast is another one we have listed on on the Good Stuff page as a a show or a a player to automatically subscribe in. And that one's iOS and Android app.
Speaker 1:But for whatever reason, Kyle noticed this last week that, a bunch of our older shows were gone from overcast, shows that have been around for a while anyways, not like some of the newer ones, like, way too seriously and, Clockworks and, what am I forgetting? Oh, yeah. High high contrast, which is still, in its first season ten episode run is holding strong as the canonical series so far. Anyways, the older shows were were just gone from Overcast completely. It just said not found, when you clicked on the link to go to them.
Speaker 1:And so we did some digging and we think we saw that it looks like they're back as of this morning anyways. And so hopefully they stay there and, it's a fairly it seemed like it was a fairly significant drop in numbers from subscriber numbers that we noticed that that's how we kinda noticed something was up. And so, hopefully, those folks who are on subscribing pocket overcast, find their way back or the show just pops back up in their feed. And if you are an overcast listener, can you tweet at me, I Chris, on Twitter, and just let me know right now, that you're using it in Overcast and that you're seeing the show again and that it seemed to be gone for a while. Although, I guess, since I didn't publish episodes for a couple weeks, we're not really sure how long it was missing for because nobody tweeted us, which is kind of like one of those things where you're like, if nobody's noticing that it's not there, then obviously there's nobody missing you and so then you have a little cry.
Speaker 1:But Kyle and I are strong. We'll be strong. We'll be okay. We had a good cry over Christmas and, resolved to fix it. So hopefully that's fixating fixed for you.
Speaker 1:I started off the New Year, diving into a new series, a new show, and my wife, Sue, had finished the first season of it a while ago on Netflix, and I think season two or three is on, TV. I think season two is on TV right now. But the show is This Is Us, and it's at first glance, whenever I'd sort of catch it, whenever she was watching it, it just kinda seemed like a silly, not silly, but just like a family drama or whatever, like the other show Parenthood or where it's just like gonna target your heartstrings with family moments and either make you feel like nostalgia for things that happen in your family or maybe bitter that things didn't like that didn't happen in your family, like TV moments sometimes can do. And but, decided to give it a chance, and it's got a bit of a feel for if you've ever sort of thought about it because it was it is really popular show. I don't think I'm really late to the game in terms of being aware of the show as being good and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1:But if you ever sort of glance at it and thought that just like me that it was just kind of like a silly sappy TV show, it is has elements of that for sure. But it has a just the unique sort of twist with the show that which I won't spoil for you, but, has a bit of a there's a a feel of, Lost to it, like the show Lost, in the in how they do things and even just like musical choices and, sort of soundtrack choices that they make and the way that they sort of reveal things over time with the folks on the show. And, and you'll know basically if you're at all curious about it, you'll know after two episodes, I think, if it's a show for you or not because either you'll like the little hook and the the sort of surprise in the in the show, premise of the show or you won't, and then you can, you know, move on to other things. Like, the other show that I started episode one of, but I haven't got back to yet is Last Man Standing, which actually has three seasons or Last Man in the World, Last Man something.
Speaker 1:It's, sorry, not Last Man Standing. Don't watch that. That's the Tim Allen show, unless you're a big Tim Allen fan, I guess. But it's Last Man on Earth, which is a Will Forte. He was on SNL, kind of goofy guy on there, but he created this this series.
Speaker 1:It's up I think it's three seasons around Netflix, at least in Canada, two or three anyways, and, just came on Netflix and, has a it's just I mean, it's just like it sounds, last man on earth, and he is sort of looking for someone else. And yeah. I won't spoil anything there. I've only watched one episode, but I kinda gave it one of those things where I gave it an episode to just see if it's actually worth it checking out or not. And, I had a lot of laugh out loud moments in the first episode, so definitely go back and check it out.
Speaker 1:And it's like post apocalyptic without all the heavy dark post apocalyptic stuff that you normally associate with, that kind of thing. So check those out. What are you watching in what are you watching in the New Year? Any picked up any shows over the holidays? You can tweet at me, I Chris on Twitter, or check out the subreddit.
Speaker 1:Goodstuff.dotfm is our website, and, thanks for listening. Thanks for carrying along with this show. Thanks for following along with good stuff. Have a great day. Bye.
