A Driving Case of the Mondays

Speaker 1:

Big round of applause for them. So yes, last episode was recorded, while standing up. Today's episode was actually recorded in the car, so I'm gonna cut to that episode right now or to that recording live on location somewhere on the streets of Saskatoon. You will find me blabbing and to my phone. So apologies for the bit of a rough audio rougher audio, but that's the episode for today.

Speaker 1:

Back again next time. Enjoy.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to Daily(ish) on the go. I am doing a lot of running around today. Well, actually just run one trip running around, and I'm being held back by a bus right now. So I thought I'd try and do a recording of the show while I'm driving. I I don't think that's breaking any laws because I'm not touching my phone.

Speaker 2:

But just so the police know, I'm not touching my phone. It's gonna just record the whole time I'm driving. Today's Monday and I it was like the most cliche of Monday mornings. I just woke up with case of the Mondays that just would not I could not shake. I was grouchy this morning with kids and family and just mad at the world for I have no idea what and but it just wasn't right.

Speaker 2:

It's amazing how forty years later, thirty nine years later, I'm still can revert back to, like, being a child, a baby at times with my emotions. And I think underlying it is a lot of I I went to bed in a bit of a pissy mood about the world and life and all that kind of stuff. Feel like the feelings of, like, life is just kinda happening to me and how the heck am I ever gonna get around to deciding my own fate. And that's a little bit of where some of the random ideas I have that about, like, uprooting my family and traveling across the country or moving to Mexico or going to Ireland or whatever the may be. That's where some of those things are rooted in.

Speaker 2:

It's like, yeah. I can't control myself and our life here, it feels like at times. Even though, admittedly, I run my own business, and that was the choice I made, obviously. But but that's where some of those ideas come from is that is are they rooted in that I can't seem to figure out this rut I'm in or a way to bust out of this rut. So might as well just wholesale change life.

Speaker 2:

That's easier than trying to just, like, make small changes along the way. Because ultimately, that would be better, probably, for me personally, just because no matter where I go or uproots or moved, I'm still me, and I'm still gonna have my issues. It's not like moving to Mexico or taking a family trip across the country in a fifth wheel is gonna instantly make me more productive in the moments I have available to me or write better, podcast better, website design better. Any of those things aren't gonna just change just because of my location. I'm still me.

Speaker 2:

I still get dragged along with me wherever I go, and all my issues and baggage come with me. There's some stuff that's definitely local or, like, part of our life here that wouldn't be dragged along, but they would just change into different different monsters that drag you down. That's where I thought I'm just gonna talk it out with you, loyal listeners, faithful listeners, and and see where this lands. Because one of the things I struggle with is I really have no idea why many of you subscribe or listen. It doesn't keep me awake at night, but sometimes when I think about the purpose of what I should be telling you, I it's I struggle with it because it's so varied and wide open as to why somebody might be subscribed.

Speaker 2:

There's some of you who are friends, family, and or folks I've met along the way just kind of wanna keep up with what I do, and that's awesome. I appreciate that so much. And there's other folks who maybe listen because they know I do podcasting or because less so because of some web stuff I do or whatever. I appreciate you folks as well. But it's not like this is a business podcast or how to podcast podcast or a YouTube podcast or podcasting podcast podcast.

Speaker 2:

It's just kind of me and my thoughts. And so sometimes those thoughts aren't altogether focused, and yet here we are. Going back to the roots of some of my frustrations of, like, life not being in control and not getting to places that I wanted to be and those kinds of things. When I look back and think of how much time I've spent on, like, what I'll naturally do in those Monday morning Mondays moments is distract myself with something, whether it's try to dig into a project and hopefully work my way out of this funk or just like stupid annoying or stupid stuff that's designed to distract me and hopefully will come out feeling better playing a game on the phone or watching some funny YouTube video or reading an article about how to better record a podcast, those kinds of things. But ultimately, if I'm in that feeling empty, frustrated mood to begin with, those things just kind of they don't fill you up.

Speaker 2:

They're like sugar candy when you're really hungry, what you need is, like, a steak or a pasta meal or something that, like, actually fill you up. And instead, you just grab some of the quick and easy junk food. Mississippi salt and vinegar chips or sweet chili heat nachos. Those are the best. And a can of Coke, and and that's, like, supposed to satisfy you.

Speaker 2:

Right? And so I'll often placate myself with that for the morning or an hour, but, ultimately, those feelings are still there. They don't go away just because of that. Whereas if I but I alternatively, I've found if I dig into something meatier, something with some depth, I'll get inspired to do something. But because, again, my underlying mood, what I often should just do is just walk away, go for a walk, have a nap, get some fresh air, talk to somebody to get work my way through something completely different than what is on my brain, help somebody out with a problem and maybe help them solve something.

Speaker 2:

So I feel a little bit of a, emotional buzz that way, anything like that. But generally, I tend to, like, dig inward, turtle down, and try to keep the world out as best I can and deal with my issue internally. So today, you're getting the verbal version of this. You're my therapist as it were. Thank you for listening.

Speaker 2:

You'll get your $100 an hour check-in the mail. And hopefully, afternoon after I get back from this errand, I have to go pick up Visa card, new Visa card because all my online bills are canceling because my Visa card is expiring. What do you do to get counter those funks, the the Mondays, the whatever days when you're just like, screw this. I don't wanna do this, but you know that it's gonna pass. It's not like a death depth of despair kind of feeling.

Speaker 2:

It's just kind of a meh feeling that's, you know, it's kinda stupid in a way, but you can't push past it. It's a reoccurring theme on the podcast, I know. So it's that time of the month, that time of the year, that time of the whatever that seems to come around every so often for me. Thank you for listening. Hopefully, this works, and the audio isn't complete garbage.

Speaker 2:

I'll be back again soon. I know whenever I put this call out on the podcast or even on Twitter or whatever, it's kind of just crickets because a lot of you are fairly passive listeners, and that's fine. But if there is things that you want me to talk about or have questions about that I do, feel free to tweet at me, I Chris, on Twitter. You can use hashtag ask I Chris. I did that sort of as a joke with Matt McGee from YouTube just because we use a hashtag for that YouTube show to keep track of everything, but I don't imagine there'll be a flood of questions.

Speaker 2:

I I could probably track it down if you tweet at me. Or [email protected] is where you can email me. Thanks for listening. Hope you have a great day. Bye.
