Happy Monday?

Less wieners and more work. I promise. Actually I discuss the different ways my business attention is being pulled - WordPress developer, podcast editor, Mac tech support, audio host, and sound fx button pusher. When is it time to focus? When do you just shut up and take the money?
Speaker 1:

Hello. Welcome to Daily(ish) for Monday, July 18. It's, actually 28 degrees. Feels like 32 out there with the wind chill. It's a hot day, but this is not a weather podcast.

Speaker 1:

But you may hear, my children screaming as they jump into the little pool we, set up in the backyard. This episode of Daily ish is brought to you by of course by Feed Press. Speaker 2:

Chris is gonna be so excited that we're talking about wieners right now.

Speaker 1:

I'm addicted to the sound thing now that I've got it working, so you're just gonna have to bear with me, that and and I'll add new ones, obviously, but for now, it's all about the wieners. Chris is gonna be so excited and talking about the news right now. So happy Monday. As I mentioned, kids are possibly gonna be yelling and screaming in the background outside my basement office window as they play in the pool, so which is is good sounds to hear, I guess. I don't know what kind of person would hate the sound of kids having fun.

Speaker 1:

If you do, guess turn off the podcast right now. Unsubscribe and, go watch I don't know what I was gonna say. I've been thinking about this just in terms of what I wanted to talk about today and more just a bit of where I'm at right now and a day spent working on, business stuff, client work, mainly podcast editing today is what it happened to be. We're off for a bit next week and, away from the office, my home business as it were. And I've been thinking about just getting ready and financially getting ready for that.

Speaker 1:

Being away for a week is a bit stressful, obviously, and especially at the end of the month, it's it's something you can plan for, obviously, and I do, but it still is just kinda feels like the last week is when crunch time happens. So I have to make sure I'm thinking this week is the crunch week. And just because mortgage stuff is due and bills are due and all that kind of stuff, fun stuff happens at the beginning beginning or end of the month. So I think about all the different things that I do with clients and like I said, today was a lot of podcast editing for a couple of shows. But I deal with things like WordPress questions, how to set up a website, which should I have on my website, should I be using, Twitter, Instagram, etcetera.

Speaker 1:

How come my website disappeared? Edit my podcast for me. Why does this audio sound like crap? I need to use a website that only supports Internet Explorer eight and I'm on a Mac. What do I do?

Speaker 1:

What do you think of this idea for a new logo? Can you make a quick video to help me promote this thing? It'd be great if you could help our discussion for a possible podcast, manage podcast network, run a business, market my business, support and keep in communication with existing clients across a broad range of issues, that kind of thing.

Speaker 2:

Chris is gonna be so excited that we're talking about wieners right now.

Speaker 1:

So in light of that, it just I've been I've been feeling this way for a good year or two of, like, needing to focus. I need to focus because there's so much stuff that I do, and it just hurts my brain trying to keep up on all the different areas and I can't. And so I I fall down obviously. I can't be, you know, ultimate WordPress ninja guru person because I also have to worry about figuring out audio podcast stuff and media things and marketing efforts and all those kind of stuff. And that's that's certainly like it's not as hard as working in a coal mine for a living, that's for sure.

Speaker 1:

But it is just like I know that I'm suffering in certain areas. Some of my clients maybe are suffering because of that, but then I'm also just lacking in a bit of enjoyment in all this stuff because I'm just doing a whole bunch of stuff not that well. And so the the stuff that I would really love to focus in on is definitely podcast editing and production and and getting involved in that kind of area for other folks. The the three clients that I have taken on in terms of podcast where they pay me to edit their podcasts, it's been a lot of fun. There's been challenges of you know missing audio or weird audio and trying to fix stuff and bit of a time crunch trying to get it all done in time.

Speaker 1:

And and so I'd love to expand that a bit more into the podcast consulting and things like that. That's why I set up the podcastproduction.pro site which is still a work and bit of a work in progress. But, and so as a result of that anyways, the that's where I'd like to focus but it's tough when you're running a business and and trying to it's not hobby thing anymore where I'm hoping to it into business. It's like this is the thing that has to whatever I'm doing has to support my family financially etcetera. And so it's a little harder although I have the time to do it.

Speaker 1:

It's a little harder on the financial side to just take risks and say no, I'm not I'm gonna say no to this client who wants me to fix the WordPress issues or whatever because I need to focus and be available for the client who might come along with podcast production stuff. And so I've been straddling those two or three worlds, somehow. That metaphor kind of breaks down obviously if you try and picture me straddling a bunch of different worlds, but, so we'll see where that goes I guess and how this summer it's kind of a good time to think and plan and dream and, hopefully figure out some stuff about life and, in the midst of fire pit talks and beers on the deck and that kind of stuff. So hope you're having a good Monday. That's where my head is at.

Speaker 1:

In the meantime, I will check-in with you hopefully tomorrow, maybe get more more daily than ish this this summer again. And, in the meantime, let me know what your thoughts on things, anything. Questions you have, sound clips you'd like to hear again. Send me audio if you want. [email protected], if you have an audio clip you think I should be using.

Speaker 1:

I Chris on Twitter and, listen to shows like Morning Show, although it's not on right now. Good stuff at FM slash Morning Show. That's where

Speaker 2:

Chris is gonna be so excited that we're talking about Weiners right now.

Speaker 1:

You can hear that and many other things. Thanks for listening. Have a great day. Bye.
