Listener Question - What Do You Hope to Accomplish?

I’m curious what you hope to accomplish with your podcasting endeavours? I know that’s a big question, I’m just wondering what drives you to podcast day after day?
Speaker 1:

Hello. Welcome to Daily(ish) for, Wednesday, February 17. It's currently two degrees outside. Feels like two degrees. Feels like and it is, which is a good good thing.

Speaker 1:

That means it's warm or ice is melting, and spring is here. I'm I'm ready to declare spring is here. So put away the winter jackets. We're not gonna get any more cold or snow. We're done.

Speaker 1:

Spring is here. Summer's just around the corner. This episode of Daily ish is, of course, brought to you by Feed Press. Visit feed.press/dailyish today to sign up and try awesome podcast hosting and blog RSS analytics for fourteen days. No contracts or commitments.

Speaker 1:

You can use promo code daily ish during checkout to get 10% off of your first year with Feed Press. And of course, by Patreon supporters such as you. Visit patreon.com/ichris for more on that. I'm talking a little bit quickly just because I'm running out of time in the day as often happens and expect except except especially except today, is when my family's coming home. And so, you know, I've cleaned the house.

Speaker 1:

I've got everything ready, trying to get everything done before they get home and just actually eat some supper. They're about an hour out of out of the city right now. And, I wasn't sure if they were stopping for something before they got came home, but they just stopped at Dairy Queen, if you must know. And, since you badgered me into telling you and, so I got a little bit more time, so I thought I'd quickly record an episode before I have some supper. And leftover or not leftover, but frozen pizza once again, if you must know since you badgered it out of me.

Speaker 1:

But I thought I'd quickly answer a question that came in. I

Speaker 2:

still have a a litany

Speaker 1:

of topics from, mister Aaron Goodwin that I I want to get to and I will get to. But the crier, a little bit more thought than the most recent question that came in from listener and asking what's I'm curious what you hope to accomplish with your podcasting endeavors. And that's a big question, but I'm just wondering what drives you to podcast day after day. This one's fairly easy. I mean, I could go many episodes on it too, I guess.

Speaker 1:

But for me, it's, primarily at this point anyways, primarily a thing, an interest and a hobby and a love of doing this kind of thing. I'm in the process of sort of searching out, figuring out what kind of podcast show, like a whole sort of show that I might wanna do next in the absence of, you know, the other shows that I've done, the Show Me Your Mic show, which is kind of on hiatus and I'm not sure what to do with that sort of animal. But, trying to be intentional about figuring out what I might do next. And, ideally, like I've I've really enjoyed doing the editing and production work. I've been involved with with other podcasts and that's sort of ideally where I'd like to be, you know, in the whatever it needs to be 50 to 75% of my income, still doing some web client work.

Speaker 1:

And but I'd love the podcasting stuff to make some money directly based on what I'm creating because I know as in just for myself, I know that if creating stuff and putting it out there isn't at least sort of, I don't know, half of what I'm doing, I tend to go a little squirrelly and, go nuts kind of like wishing I was doing something that was more on my own, less other people's stuff. So at some point, that, you know, fifty fifty split or something like that of my own work in various forms along with other work.

Speaker 2:

Because it it also is stressful.

Speaker 1:

It would be stressful to have a 100% of my income and my family's, you know, money to pay food bills and things based on me creating things. That would be stressful as well. Its own unique kind of stress. So it's always greener on the other side of the ecommerce solution. So, but, yeah, that's sort of what I hope to.

Speaker 1:

I hope that I don't know that I'm cut out to be like super mega podcast nerd person or not. And, you know, rabid fan community thing built around what I'm doing. But with what we're doing with good stuff, I really enjoy the community that we're building now. Like I've mentioned many times. And this is less of a pitch for the Patreon support idea as much as it is for like just a fun community to be a part of the, the Patreon supporters get to be a part of the Slack group that, we've started for Patreon supporters of various shows on good stuff.

Speaker 1:

As I've mentioned many times before, email me [email protected] if you're a Patreon supporter and you wanna be a part of that. But part of that's actually something that I'm proud of just that we've developed that. It doesn't pay the bills directly. It doesn't like keep the lights on if there were lights that we had to keep on with the podcast network. And we'll have some financial issues in the future at some point here as far as money running out and what are we gonna do with things and stuff like that.

Speaker 1:

So, there's, you know, interesting times ahead, but, definitely the aspect of having friends and a community that are involved either directly or indirectly with the whole podcasting thing has been fun, is fun, continues to be fun. So why I do it every day almost, is as much just so that I keep my head in the game of podcasting because I it would be very easy for me to be lazy, well, even lazier, and, not do anything until some idea strikes. And I know that if I do that, then I'll get very rusty, nervous at actually recording anything and feel like, why bother? I have nothing to contribute. So I'll just sell on my equipment and go back to being non podcasting person, which there's nothing wrong with non podcasting people.

Speaker 1:

They're perfectly fine, normal, as long as they listen to podcasts. So that's where I especially with Daily's right now anyways, it's kinda like the thing that just, you know, if I was involved in exercise, it would be my, you know, walking every day. If I was involved in eating a lot, it would be my, you know, pizza every day. I don't know. This analogy is breaking down pretty quick.

Speaker 1:

But, so that's why I do it every day and try to do it every day. I I'm looking for opportunities to do, podcasts with other people, and it's also it's just sort of separating that idea of, like, this it needs to be a serious for, like, well thought out intention planned out thing that I would be involved in, not just, hey. It'd fun to talk for a little while, which that could be the show, but, yeah, it just it needs to have more purpose at this point in terms of what I've done in the past and the experiences I've had on podcasts and where I'd like to take it in the future. I listen to podcasts like, you know, stuff like Reply All 99% Invisible and and other shows like that where it's like, you know, there's a it's a heavily produced show. It's there's a lot of people involved, big money involved now, and and it's not something an individual can do on their own, but it does kind of raise the bar for me in terms of what I want to put out there.

Speaker 1:

And I listen to some of the shows I I used to listen to a lot, and I still do occasionally, where it's just, you know, two typically two dudes talking about tech or whatever and just kinda off the cuff and you can tell they haven't planned stuff. And it it's it's not that I don't enjoy those and there's still a place for those for sure. But I just kind of aspire to hopefully do more than just that. That could be the thing I do. I know that isn't on its own isn't gonna attract enough listeners, isn't gonna attract sponsorship as a result, isn't gonna pay the bills.

Speaker 1:

And so as much as I enjoy doing that stuff, I also know it needs whatever I do next needs to be sort of well thought out, well planned, and involve a lot of work. And so I wanna make sure I step in the right direction if I'm gonna go down that path. So that's my answer to that question, and I'll be back hopefully tomorrow with more answers to questions and topic suggestions. They're all not all questions. Some of them are just topic suggestions.

Speaker 1:

Planning, how to cope with hard times, gratitude, the merits and skills involved in being nice, Stereotypes, measuring success. Favorite, least favorite pets. Is social media making us nuts? The value of news, what do you find interesting that nobody else seems to? Podcasting would be one of those.

Speaker 1:

Planning, the value of novelty versus quality, etcetera. So if you have those other topic ideas, questions you have for me, I'd love to answer them in a future episode. Always looking for content ideas. [email protected] is where you can reach me on email. IChris on Twitter.

Speaker 1:

Patreon.com/ichris is where you can visit and support me and then also join our awesome community of supporters on the Slack thingy. So off to go check on the pizza. Thanks for listening. Have a great day. Bye.
