Speaker 1:So, this is a bit of a just a test. I I tweeted a picture. I guess I Patreoned. I don't know what we call that. I post a picture on Patreon of the microphone that arrived from Amazon Primed the other day and, just testing it out.
Speaker 1:It's a condenser microphone. It's a Samsung c zero one u pro microphone for those that care. I picked it up on Amazon a good deal and just needed to get something before I left because I just obviously realized I didn't have any microphone that I could take along on our trip, which would be kind of bad for podcasting. I don't really wanna use the built in mic on my phone or or a computer. It's a condenser style microphone, so it's a different, sort of style.
Speaker 1:The microphone setup is a little differently. It's kinda like you put it on your desk or on a stand or whatever or in a boom stand, and, you don't talk into it directly like I would with my Heil PR 40 normally. It's kind of more of like picks up the aura of my voice, if that's the right word. And, and so this is a little of a test. It doesn't feel right to me to be like just sort of talking into the air, not into the microphone.
Speaker 1:I have to resist the urge to like look down and talk into the microphone. And so we'll see what it sounds like after I do a bit of EQ ing and stuff with it because I'll be able to do that, with Logic afterwards. The recording software I use, it goes USB straight into the computer, so that'll be handy with my laptop. Don't have to bring any mixers and preamps and stuff like that. There's a little headphone jack out the bottom so I can hear myself when I'm talking.
Speaker 1:It's portable ish. It's a bit bigger than I thought it was gonna be just from the pictures, but it, it'll certainly work. And, it definitely picks up a lot more room noise and especially because I don't have it on my boom stand like I do the the house. Like when I'm typing, you could, I'm sure, hear it way more than I you would, with my boom stand, but I'm not gonna bring a whole boom stand down to Mexico. Maybe I'll I'll fashion one out of, coconuts when I'm there.
Speaker 1:And so, there was as part of this, there was like a really low level it was picking up. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I thought maybe it was the furnace or, washing machine or something in the room next door. Turns out it was just the external hard drive that I have that backs up, you know, runs time machine, backs up my iMac, just sitting on my desk, you know, spinning. And, the iMac, as far as I can tell, I can't hear any I'm sure there is some ambient noise that it's picking up, but nothing really from that.
Speaker 1:But definitely the hard drive is just kind of this low level that you definitely don't hear in the room, but as soon as, it's on the same desk as the microphone is sitting right now in a little stand, and, you could definitely hear it just sort of like background and so turn power that thing off. It'll be interesting to see, I guess, with in where we're going where we're gonna be in Mexico is, the like, construction anyways is a lot of, like, either plaster or cement. And so it's very, like, sound echoey, not very conducive to awesome podcasting noise sounding. And so, it'll be I'll I'll have to figure out a room set up where I can, like, you know, throw some blankets on the wall or make make some sort of little audio cave to record in. Because even just this home office now, can hear way more echo, way more reverb and stuff in the room than I normally would.
Speaker 1:So this is I'm hoping it'll be, I'll be able to do a bit better audio setup down there. I'm not gonna worry about it here at home because obviously, normally, I'll use the the better mic or more expensive mic anyways in setup. But, it is kind of an a unique thing. It's supposed to there's a iPhone adapter thing that I could get the, USB camera adapter so I could use this microphone technically with like an iPhone, my iPhone, and record a podcast that way if I wanted to, which would be, again, a little more portable. I think if I was holding it like I am right now, you'd, yeah, you'd hear, like, you know, some hand noises on it, but certainly doable.
Speaker 1:Anyways, this will be this episode is one is going into the Patreon feed only, like I said at the beginning. I'm still gonna throw the sponsor stuff in here and and things like that just because and then you'll hear computer noises as well. Just because it like I said, eventually, it's I'll put it back in the regular feed on good stuff so that it just sort of fills in the gap of of a month and a half. It doesn't look like I stopped podcasting completely, you know, a few months from now. And so, but yeah.
Speaker 1:Hope that works. Let me know how bad or good the audio sounds, and, not much I can do about it now because we're leaving a couple days flying on the plane. Oh, there it got really quiet. I think the heater furnace was on. So you had another thing to worry about.
Speaker 1:But, the, yeah, we're flying on Friday here, Saskatchewan time anyways, pretty early in the morning, and, should get there Friday night. And then, we will see how things play out. It's gonna be fun. Looking forward to it. Lots of stress in the house as we get ready to go, and I should not be worrying about microphones and podcasting right now.
Speaker 1:I should be packing and, finishing up client work, but, I just couldn't resist messing around with new new gear as you do. Follow me along on Twitter. Now, I'm sure you know iChris on Twitter and, [email protected] if you wanna email me. And patreon dot com slash iChris. Thanks for listening.
